With any makeup artist whose work I fall in love with, or whose style resonates with me, I always remember the first time I saw one of their looks. One of those times when the makeup grabs you and forces you to rifle through the small print of the credits to find the name of the artist responsible. With Petros it was his incredible work on the dreamy face of Kyrsi Pyhronen, in Tim Walker’s “Awfully Big Adventure” editorial, back in 2011 for British Vogue. The hyper flushed, bruise-red cheeks he set against her otherwise almost makeup free face, in a piece inspired by the Kazakh eagle hunters of Mongolia, were at once outlandish but hauntingly beautiful. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect look for the story, it was genius!
London based Petros hails from beautiful Athens, and headed to our shores at the age of 19, studying at the London College of Fashion where he graduated in 1997. He then went on to be first assistant to HRH Val Garland for three years before going on to forge his own career.
And what a career it’s been. Now represented by Streeters, Petros regularly shoots cover stories from ID to Vogue, keys fashion week shows from Paul Smith to Roberto Cavalli, and has shot countless campaigns including Alexander Wang, Burberry and YSL Beauty. His work continues to inspire me in my own career and I look forward to seeing his new work year after year. Check out our picks from his gorgeous portfolio for your own inspiration below!
