Gracing our lucky news agents’ shelves since 1972, W is a monthly, elegant, and lavish American fashion mag, which with it’s oversized pages, and sumptuous presentation has won the highly respected SPD Gold Medal Award for Fashion Photography three times. W is BIG, cinematic and dramatic, featuring the work of world-renowned photographers like Mert and Marcus and Tim Walker, creating iconic images and often controversial stories, such as Steven Klein’s 60 page “Domestic Bliss” story featuring Brangelina in a tale of marital strife in 1960s suburbia, or Bruce Weber’s equally vast and moving tribute to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
With its mix of super A-list celebrities and top models, W’s pages are filled with fashion, beauty, travel, prominent people and stylish living, and with readers’ average income topping the £100k mark it oozes opulence from every page. In fact the first 100 or so pages of that opulence are mainly glossy fashion ads, but presented in their oversized format in all their glory they’re a feast for the eyes of any makeup artist.
W is more than a fashion magazine. It is a work of art, providing readers with creative inspiration through insights into the world of fashion, style and luxury. The magazine presents the reader with the most cutting edge, powerful photographic images that are often unmatched by any other magazine. I’ve picked out a few of my favourites from recent years for you to get the inspiration flowing, from editorials to celebrity covers, I only wish I could’ve chosen more!!
